>>> hi, thanks for joining us. i'm maureen ume. >>> the top story tonight, the wind. the wind advisory expired about an hour ago. still, it is still pretty windy. how strong were the winds? let's go to fox 5's gwen tolbart. how strong were they out there, gwen? >> reporter: we had record at reagan national airport, dulles as well as baltimore were in excess of 40 to 45 miles per hour, reaching up to 51, actually, at dulles. there are some areas that maybe we didn't get reporting stations from yet. we'll have some update on that, but those winds are definitely strong. these are official numbers that came in just prior to the 5:00 hour. here is a look at current wind gusts now, still vety strong, from 17 to 32 miles per hour. they're going to start to diminish and that's good news. we'll have light wind as we move into the overnight hours. temperatures, 40 degrees at reagan. 37 at dulles. i want to say that those winds today gave a significant wind chill and only felt like it was in the low 20s in many of our neighborhoods. skies not too bad. we had a few clouds. we are looking

should go up for the wealthiest individuals, all of us, every single one of us, agrees that tax rates should not go up for the other 98% of americans, which includes 97% of small businesses. every member of congress believes that. every democrat. every republican. so there is absolutely no reason not to protect these americans from a tax hike. but the very least, let us agree right now on what we already agree on. let us get that done. i just spoke to speaker boehner and met with senator reid. i have asked congress to work on a package that prevents a tax hike on middle-class americans, protect unemployment insurance for 2 million americans, and lays the groundwork for further work on growth and deficit reduction. that is an achievable goal. that can get done in 10 days. once this legislation is agreed to, i expect democrats and republicans to get back to washington and have it passed both chambers. i will immediately signed it into law before january 1 of next year. averting this tax hike is not a democratic or republican responsibility. with their votes, the american people have det

and there were profane words used to the way they comport themselves and as a result these guys were free of any tether to the leadership and so not only were they voting or prepared to vote against boehner this last time around. he pulled the bill so we'll never know. they were flouting him very publicly, in particular you saw tim hills' camp saying we won't be intimidated by the speaker and the republican leadership and there were some tweets, as well. the lesson wasn't learned. if anything, they're moving in the opposite direction. >> are they known for being as what jonathan was saying here, jerks and we are paraphrasing here at the moment based on what was actually said by representative moreland. what are they known for? >> they are known for being true mostly to the tea party, and they are not responsive to the priorities of their own party leadership. they're responsive to their own constituencies and what they're worried about is being challenged by someone who is more conservative than they are and when they would hold this vote as a score on whether to support them or oppose them in t

for those of us who have been watching politics for years to see a speaker of the house fail so miserably to win support for his own measure. so that means the president is really not negotiating with anybody who can really make a deal. he can't cover any check that he'd write at the oval office. i've said all along the real issue is whether boehner can bring along his caucus for anything. he really can't and it puts everything in a tough position. but the president does end up with a more reasonable upper hand. i think jared is right. >> but the other thing i would just alert you to is, once they get through this, i think what happened last night and what's happening this week is really a bad, a bad omen for what the republicans might try to do once again on the debt ceiling in january or february. >> president obama argued tonight that both parties can agree taxes for the middle class cannot go up. let's watch what he said. >> in ten days, we face a deadline. even though democrats and republicans are arguing about whether those rates can go up for wealthest individuals, all of us agree
